About Sticky Notes

This Sticky Notes web app is designed as a visual organization tool with simple controls for simple tasks. There is no sign in, as all preferences and content are saved to local storage.

"How To" Guides

Creating & Editing Notes

Clicking 'Add' buttons at the top of the screen will create Notes.

There are three types of notes currently supported:

Text
A plaintext note good for ideas, descriptions, and unformatted lists.
Checklist
Allows you to create a list of tasks, and check them off upon completition.
Image
Displays an image stored elsewhere on the internet via a given link.

You can click a note's fields to change its data with the exception of individual tasks within a checklist note.

Each note has a favorite button marked by a star (★) which will change it's background color to something more visible and a delete button marked by an cross (✗) which will remove it from the noteboard.

Notes can be repositioned by clicking and dragging the colored bar at the top of the note and moving it to a new position. The board will automatically resize itself to contain all notes.

Make sure to click save when you're done making changes!

Saving & Deleting

When you want to save your board, click the save icon, and the content of your board will be saved to your browser's local storage. It will not go anywhere besides the computer you are on, and you will not have access to it if you switch computers or browsers.

If you want to back up your boards so you can access them offline, on another machine, or between browsers, you can download them via the download icon.

Downloaded boards are JSON files, which means you can also edit and access them using text editors, though hanging the format of your files too much may prevent you from reuploading them.

To delete your board, click on the trash icon, and confirm you want to delete the board. Upon doing so, the board will be moved to a trash can and will no longer show up when navigating between boards.

Boards in the trashcan can either be restored or deleted permenantly.

Making Additional Boards

If you run out of space on your board, or want to seperate your notes by topic, you can create additional boards.

The hamburger menu at the top left of the screen allows you to create a new board, or upload one you have saved in our format.

Make sure your current board is saved before leaving!

This menu will also allow you to navigate between your saved boards, and access your trash can for any you might delete.

You can change the name of your current board by clicking it's tilte on the header bar.

Make sure that any name you enter is unique, as it is what is used to specify where your notes are saved.

Additional Settings

In the settings menu (the gear icon) there are a few settings that can change the user experience of the app, from how the sticky notes move, to the appearance of the notes and the app itself.

Toggle Dark/Light Mode
This button will toggle a dark background and light text, though the colors of the sticky notes will remain unchanged.
Display Note Order
When this option is selected, the order in which notes appear in thier list is displayed in the corner of the note. This order affects tab order, and which notes diplay on top of one another.
Grid Snapping
When toggled, notes will snap to a pixel grid when moved. This does not affect existing note placement.
Grid Size
If Grid Snapping is enabled, this setting controls the size of the grid and has a range of 5 – 25
Theme
Choose between various style sticky notes. Not effected by whether dark mode has been selected.

The site is under development, and was last updated on November 2nd, 2025. Check out the GitHub repository for more info.

Note: "Sticky Notes" is best used with a mouse and keyboard as repositioning the notes via touchscreen has not been accounted for in this version.
